I’m looking forward to the start of the school year! I've been teaching in Washington for 31 years. I received my degree in elementary education at Central College in Pella. I live with my husband, Matt in Keota. My husband is a District Sales Manager for Winfield United. We have two children, Nick, 25, and Megan, 22 years old. I would like to welcome you to 5th Grade and to my class! Here is a little information to get to know me better. I am beginning my 29th year teaching 5th grade. I also coach 7th & 8th boys’ basketball and high school boys’ golf. I have been married to my beautiful wife Jodi for 25 years. We have two children, Anna, 20, and Ben, 17. Anna will be a junior at Emmaus Bible College in Dubuque.  Ben will be a senior  in high school.  We live on an acreage north of town and enjoy doing things as a family. I am actively involved in serving at my church, Faith Baptist. This past summer we had fun at the Dells in Wisconsin and traveled to the San Francisco and Redwood National Park. It was the first time flying for our kids!  We love to see national parks and be in nature.   We have a dog, Abby, and numerous cats at our house.  I am a Minnesota Vikings fan and enjoy many sports. 5th grade is my favorite grade :)

Chad Hippen
Welcome to 5th grade! I am excited to start my first year in 5th grade after 10 years in 1st grade and the past 10 years in 4th grade. This would make my 21st year of teaching! I am married to Joan Hippen. She is the 1-1 coordinator for the WCSD and the librarian at all the district’s buildings. We have two daughters- Lindsay, who is just starting her freshman year at the University of Iowa, and Allison, who is a junior in high school. I like to go my kid’s activities and spend time at home reading and watching sports. I enjoy playing golf when I have some free time! We are all avid Disney fans and have been to Disneyworld three times and Disneyland once. We have also been on three Disney cruises. So much fun! This summer we stayed primarily in Washington going to Allison’s softball games in June. We are also big Hawkeye fans and we go to the home football games as a family in the fall.

Shelby Salow
I am the Level 1 Special Education teacher at Lincoln Elementary.  This school year I will be working with 5th grade students in my resource classroom and have the opportunity to work closely with an amazing 5th grade team!  I have enjoyed teaching in the Washington Community School District the last three years.  This school year will be my fourth year teaching at Lincoln Elementary and my second year teaching in a Level 1 Special Education classroom.  I graduated from Mount Mercy University in 2013 and am currently working on earning my Masters in Education through Morningside College.  I coach middle school and high school boys’ and girls’ cross country in the Fall and high school boys’ track in the Spring. When I am not teaching or coaching, I enjoy spending time with my husband, Kodey and our two dogs, Gus and Sadie.  We enjoy being outside and spending time with our family and friends, as much as possible!  I love getting to know my students each year and learning along side them.  I am looking forward to another great year!
